Red Pine: Dancing With the Dead (Online)

  • Wandering Ox Dojo (Online) (map)

As the Zen Lens exploration of Rumi draws to a close, a new journey begins. Dancing with the Dead invites us into the world of renowned translator, poet, and wanderer Red Pine, whose work over the past fifty years has brought the voices of China's great poets and Chan hermits to contemporary readers.

Together, we will explore the lives, poetry, and teachings of figures such as Cold Mountain (Hanshan), Stonehouse (Shih-wu), and other remarkable voices from the Chan tradition. Through their poems and stories, we will encounter enduring themes of simplicity, solitude, freedom, practice, and awakening.

We are delighted that Red Pine will join us for the opening session on 6th October, sharing reflections on his adventures among these poets, mountains, texts, and traditions. This rare opportunity will offer a personal glimpse into the discoveries and encounters that have shaped a lifetime devoted to bringing these voices from the past into conversation with the present.

This is an online gathering led by Andy Robins of the Wandering Ox Dojo, held on the first Tuesday of each month, and offered as part of the life of the community. No prior experience is required.

The event with Red Pine is Tuesday, October 6, 2026 [ONLINE] 1.00pm CT / 7.00pm UK time / 8.00pm CET. Please register below for the series.

Suggested contribution £5 per session. Wandering Ox is a not-for-profit community supported by the kindness and generosity of our members. Every contribution helps us continue offering a welcoming, accessible space to practise together. Thank you for being part of this community and for supporting its continued unfolding.
